Overview
AnimeGrids is a daily anime knowledge grid. This page explains what data we collect, why we use it, and the choices available to you. We aim to collect as little as possible to operate, secure, and improve the game.
Accounts
When you first play, Supabase creates an anonymous account with a random user ID. You may optionally connect a Google account to keep your completed grids, streak, and scores across sessions. If you do, we receive account information from Google through Supabase, including your Google account identifier, email address, display name, and related profile metadata. We use this information only to authenticate you, display your account, and associate your puzzle progress with your account.
Game & Progress Data
We process your anime searches, guesses, puzzle dates, completed cells, scores, and sync information to run the game. Puzzle progress and streaks are stored locally in your browser and may also be stored in Supabase under your user ID. When you complete a grid, its nine answers are stored in our backend so we can sync your progress and calculate rarity percentiles for that puzzle.
Analytics & Performance
We use Datadog Real User Monitoring (RUM), including sampled session replay, to understand how the site performs and is used. Depending on the session, Datadog may receive:
- A pseudonymous Supabase user ID;
- pages visited and selected actions, such as sharing or viewing stats;
- errors, load times, network activity, and session-replay events; and
- browser, device, IP address, and approximate location diagnostics.
Datadog is configured to mask user input, and we do not send your name, email address, Google profile details, or MyAnimeList account information as Datadog user attributes.
Cookies & Browser Storage
We use browser storage for puzzle progress, completed puzzles, streaks, stats, theme preference, account sessions, and interface preferences. Temporary session storage supports Google sign-in and sign-out. We also use a seven-day, HTTP-only cookie to remember which correct guesses have already contributed to aggregate rarity counts.
You can clear this data through your browser settings, although doing so may sign you out, reset local preferences or guest progress, and create a new anonymous user ID.
Service Providers
We use the following providers to operate the site:
- Supabase for authentication and progress storage;
- Google for optional sign-in and the feedback form;
- Datadog for analytics, performance monitoring, and error diagnostics; and
- Cloudflare Turnstile for bot and abuse prevention. Turnstile may process signals such as your IP address, browser information, and device characteristics.
These providers process data under their own privacy terms. We do not sell personal information or share it with third parties for targeted advertising. We may disclose information if required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect the site and its users.
MyAnimeList Data
Anime and metadata shown in the game are provided via the MyAnimeList API. AnimeGrids is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by MyAnimeList. Your searches within the game are used only to complete puzzles and are not tied to your MyAnimeList account.
Data Retention & Your Choices
We delete anonymous accounts and their server-side puzzle progress after 30 days without saved puzzle activity. Connected-account progress is kept while your account remains active or as needed to operate the service. Analytics and security data are retained according to our provider settings and applicable requirements.
You can play without connecting Google, clear browser data, or sign out at any time. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of account data, contact us through the Feedback link below. We may need to verify that the account belongs to you.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
